About Jodi

I am passionate about helping others brave life’s challenges by feeling and becoming strong in mind and spirit. I deeply enjoy working with people as they overcome a range of mental health issues, including past trauma, anxiety, depression, dissociation, postpartum health issues,  and many more.

In the counseling session,  I work to balance the science of the mind with a laid-back style, putting you in the driver’s seat of your health while offering tools to help you feel most equipped to handle the array of challenges you may be facing.  I enjoy adapting my counseling style to your needs, adjusting as you grow in wellness.

I am a Jesus-follower, which inevitably affects my worldview and some of how I approach the counseling space.  Namely, I bring with me a belief that every human is deeply loved, valued, and worthy.  I do enjoy working with those of all belief systems, and respect whatever level of spirituality you feel comfortable with involving in your sessions.

About Brooks

Life is hard. There are constant experiences, feelings, hopes, dreams, successes, failures, and thoughts to navigate and process. Sometimes we do okay navigating life without extra help, other times we need a safe space and fresh perspective to learn, grow and heal. I am always deeply honored when someone trusts me to create that space and walk alongside them in their journey to understand themselves and the world around them. I believe that you are the expert concerning your life, and my job is to collaborate with you to help you achieve your goals.

I enjoy working with people of all ages, life stages, backgrounds, religions, and ethnicities. I have experience working with clients who have a wide variety of mental health concerns and am a trauma informed practitioner. I am also trained in Neuro Emotional Technique and enjoy incorporating art into the therapeutic experience when relevant.

About Derek

Navigating life as a permanently and totally disabled veteran, I’ve transformed my journey into one of resilience inspired service. Having experienced and accepted the universality of trauma, I understand the profound impact our responses have on shaping the trajectory of our lives. As a mental health counselor, my approach is non-diagnostic in nature, grounded in meeting individuals wherever they are in their unique life paths.

My commitment is to provide a compassionate space for healing and personal development, with a focus on strengths while acknowledging areas for improvement. I aim to join clients on their journey of growth, recognizing the limitless potential within each person. Inspired by Christian values, as well as my education in clinical psychology, I celebrate diversity and believe in fostering an inclusive space for all individuals to learn, grow, and thrive. Through a collaborative and supportive therapeutic process, I guide clients towards achieving their goals and unlocking their full potential, proving that even in adversity, meaningful transformation is possible.

Our Mission, Values, and Vision

Our Mission

At Coleman Counseling, our mission is to provide Jacksonville with mental health support which cares for the whole human- body, mind, and spirit. We aim to leave room for the wholeness of the human experience, and offer our clients a space where they can feel strong, whole, and healthy.

Our Values

We at Coleman Counseling value authenticity, wholeness, and growth. We believe that life is well lived when we view ourselves as life-long learners- keeping our eyes on goals for ourselves, while also enjoying the journey with grace.

Our Vision

We hope to see a day where every person gives themselves permission to have and enjoy the human experience, having access to safe spaces where they can feel brave enough to heal from whatever their brains and bodies have experienced.

Teaching Practice Model

What is a teaching practice?

Coleman Counseling is a growing teaching practice. This means we are a private practice for mental health counseling, devoted to offering amazing counseling services to our clients, and devoted to the growth of the counseling profession in general. The counselors at Coleman Counseling are at various stages in the licensure process (pre-licensed, registered, and fully licensed), and are thoroughly vetted for fitness to the values and culture of Coleman Counseling. This practice values its counselors at all stages, and fosters their continued growth and learning, in order to better foster healing for our clients.

What is a graduate level counselor intern?

A graduate level counselor intern is a counselor who has completed most or all of their master’s level curriculum in clinical mental health counseling. The student’s practicum and internship are the last pieces of their master’s program, which fulfill the experience portion of the program and concludes with graduation! They will receive weekly supervision from their supervisor at Coleman Counseling, as well as their supervisor at their university.

What is a registered mental health counselor intern (RMHCI)?

An RMHCI is a counselor who has completed their master’s program. RMHCI is a the first level of licensure for the state of Florida and is still required to attend regular supervision by a qualified supervisor on a weekly to biweekly basis.

What is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC)?

An LMHC is a fully and independently licensed counselor with the state. This is the next level of licensure after RMHCI. An LMHC is not required regular supervision, but LMHCs are encouraged to seek consultation and supervision along their journey anyway. Counselors are life-long-learners, and continuing to equip ourselves progresses the profession and makes sure our clients are cared for to the absolute best standard possible.
